STEP BACK IN TIME

St Mawes Castle

One of the best-preserved of Henry VIII’s coastal artillery fortresses, and the most elaborately decorated, lies right on our doorstep. St Mawes Castle, together with Pendennis Castle on the other side of the river, once guarded the important anchorage of the Carrick Roads.

TOWAN BEACH

Not to be confused with its namesake beach in Newquay, this glorious stretch of sand evades the crowds and represents a true hidden gem of the south coast. A maze of rock pools is uncovered at low tide, while sand and shingle take centre stage when the tide is in.
