Get Away from it All
St Mawes is a magnet for visitors from our busy cities wishing to exchange the hustle and bustle for the calm serenity of the area.
The harbour is very popular with the yachting community and some of the main activities in the area are sailing and water-based sports.
To this end there are several local companies offering both equipment hire and tuition, which are bookable from the The Rising Sun.

Walkers Holidays
The area is also a walkers paradise, offering many circular walks, one of which takes in the picturesque church of St Just-in-Roseland. The fishing villages of Portscatho and Portloe are also worth a visit.
There are many beautiful gardens to visit within the area, Trelissick, Lanhydrock, Lamorran and several other National Trust areas of natural beauty.
The Ferry to Falmouth
For those wanting to spend a more leisurely time on the water, there is a regular (½ hourly) ferry service from St Mawes to the sea faring town of Falmouth.
The trip, lasting around 25 minutes, takes in excellent views including St. Mawes Castle, Pendennis Castle, black rocks and St. Anthony lighthouse.

Relax on the Beach
Besides the water activities there are two good beaches nearby, benefiting from a southerly aspect making them ideal for sunbathing.
Further attractions in the area are the round houses at Veryan (reputedly built in that shape to keep the devil from hiding in the corners). The cathedral town of Truro is accessible either by road or by the historic King Harry ferry.
